What this recall means for you
Certain 2017 Hyundai Elantra vehicles may have a damaged electronic power steering connector. This can cause a loss of electric power steering assistance, so the steering wheel becomes much harder to turn, especially at lower speeds.
Harder steering effort can make it difficult to control the vehicle and may increase the risk of a crash. If your steering suddenly feels heavy, pull over safely as soon as you can and have the vehicle inspected.
Hyundai will notify affected owners. Dealers will replace the electric power steering (EPS) motor free of charge. You can contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-243-7766 and reference recall number 161, and you can check your VIN for open recalls on CarRecallWatch.com or the NHTSA website.
