Audi A3 Cabriolet Recall 17V196: Passenger Airbag May Deploy With Too Much Force

NHTSA campaign 17V196, reported March 22, 2017, 11,618 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

In certain lower-speed crashes, the software that controls the airbag system may deploy the front passenger airbag improperly if the passenger is sitting on the edge of the seat or lying back with the seat reclined. The vehicle does not meet federal airbag safety requirements (FMVSS 208) because of this issue.

If the airbag deploys with more force than intended, it can increase the risk of injury to the front seat passenger. Owners should not wait to have this addressed.

Audi will notify owners, and dealers will update the airbag control module software at no cost to you. Check your VIN for open recalls, and contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834 with any questions.
