- Problem

The Federal Placard on these vehicles indicates a capacity of 5,000 lbs for each axle, however, each axle actually has a capacity of 4,000 lbs. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification."
- Risk
- The incorrect information can cause the vehicle to be overloaded or result in axle failure, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy
- Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will replace the Federal Placard with a corrected one, free of charge. The recall began on March 27, 2017. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-642-2640. Forest River's number for this recall is 10C-03082017-0341.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
What this recall means for you
The federal certification placard on these 2017 recreational trailers lists an axle capacity of 5,000 lbs, but each axle actually carries only 4,000 lbs. Relying on the incorrect label could lead to the trailer being overloaded, which can cause axle failure and increase the risk of a crash.
If you own one of these trailers, contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-642-2640 and reference recall number 10C-03082017-0341. Forest River will notify owners, and an authorized dealer will replace the Federal Placard with a corrected one at no cost to you. Until the placard is corrected, use the lower 4,000 lb per-axle figure when loading the trailer, and check your VIN for any other open recalls.
