Jayco Fifth Wheel Designer Recall 17V167: Spare tire rim can rub brake caliper, risking tire failure

NHTSA campaign 17V167, reported March 14, 2017, 14 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2017 Jayco Designer fifth wheel trailers equipped with the disk brake option may have a steel spare tire rim that rubs against the brake caliper. This contact can generate enough heat to cause the spare tire to fail.

A tire failure while towing increases the risk of a crash. Owners should be aware of this hazard, particularly when the trailer is in use with its spare tire mounted.

Jayco will notify owners, and authorized dealers will replace the spare wheel with an aluminum rim and a new spare tire at no cost. For questions, contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267 and reference recall number 9901347. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
