Ride The Ducks Amphibious Vehicle Recall 17V165: Dashboard lights may not show turn signals or high beams

NHTSA campaign 17V165, reported March 13, 2017, 105 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain Ride The Ducks amphibious vehicles have an instrument cluster that does not light the correct symbol when the turn signals or high beam headlights are in use; only a solid color is lit. The windshield wiper indicator also may not light when the headlights are on. This means the driver may not realize these systems are active, which could increase the risk of a crash.

The remedy is free. Ride The Ducks International LLC will notify owners, and dealers will replace the instrument panel telltales and controls at no charge. Owners can contact RTDI customer service at 1-417-266-7600.

You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls, and have the repair done at an authorized dealer.

Official recall notice

Safety recall 17V165Ride The Ducks International LLC
Component
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL
Problem
Ride The Ducks International LLC (RTDI) is recalling certain 1996-2014 Stretch Amphibious Passenger and Truck Amphibious Passenger vehicles. The instrument cluster does not illuminate the associated symbol when the vehicles' turn signals or high beam lights are in use, instead only a solid color is lit. Additionally, the indicator for the windshield wiping system is not illuminated when the vehicle's headlights are activated. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 101, "Control and Displays."
Risk
If the instrument panel does not illuminate correct telltale displays for the turn signals or high beam headlights, the vehicle operator may not recognize that the systems are been activated, potentially increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
RTDI will notify owners, and dealers will replace the instrument panel telltales and controls, free of charge. The recall began on April 20, 2017. Owners may contact RTDI customer service at 1-417-266-7600.
Notes
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
