Airstream Base Camp Recall 17V155: Tires can rub wheel liner under heavy load, risking blowout

NHTSA campaign 17V155, reported March 9, 2017, 293 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain 2017 Basecamp trailers, the rear axle can travel far enough under a heavy load that the tires contact the plastic liner of the wheel well or fender. This contact can cause the tires to fail.

A tire failure can increase the risk of a crash. Owners should be cautious about how heavily the trailer is loaded until the recall repair is completed.

Airstream will notify owners, and dealers will replace the axle to limit the axle travel at no cost to you. Check whether your trailer is affected by contacting Airstream customer service at 1-937-596-6111, extension 7401 or 7411, and check your VIN for any open recalls.
