Prime Time Crusader Recall 17V141: Incorrect axle capacity label can lead to overloading and crashes

NHTSA campaign 17V141, reported March 6, 2017, 11 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The federal certification label on certain 2017 recreational trailers lists the axle capacity as 7,000 lbs, but the actual axle capacity is 6,000 lbs. Because the label overstates what the axles can carry, a trailer could be loaded beyond its real limit without the owner realizing it.

An overloaded trailer can lose control and raises the risk of a crash. Owners should check the placard on their trailer and avoid exceeding the axle capacity listed on the corrected label.

Forest River Inc. will notify owners, and dealers will replace the Federal placard with a corrected one at no cost. Owners can contact Forest River Customer Service at 1-574-862-1025, referencing recall number 49-02242017-0331. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
