Western Star 4900 Recall 17V124: Air Tank Welds May Leak, Sudden Park Brake Application

NHTSA campaign 17V124, reported February 27, 2017, 450 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain aluminum air tanks in these trucks may have improper welds. This can cause a rapid loss of air pressure without warning.

If air pressure drops quickly, the park brakes may apply suddenly, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should be alert to this hazard and check whether their truck is affected.

The repair is free. Dealers will replace the aluminum air tanks with steel, triple compartment air tanks at no cost. Owners can contact Daimler Trucks North America customer service at 1-800-547-0712 (recall FL-732), and should check their VIN for open recalls.
