Buick Lacrosse Recall 17V116: Power steering may fail from water corrosion

NHTSA campaign 17V116, reported February 23, 2017, 2,085 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some 2017 Buick LaCrosse vehicles have electrical connectors for the electronic power steering system that may not be properly sealed. Water can enter and corrode these connectors, which may cause a loss of power steering.

If power steering is lost, the steering wheel becomes much harder to turn by hand, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners of affected vehicles should take this seriously and not ignore any change in steering effort.

The repair is free. Dealers will inspect the vehicle and correct the seal seating and secure the power steering connector seals at no cost. Owners will be notified by mail, or you can contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300. You can also check your VIN for open recalls on the NHTSA website and schedule an appointment with an authorized dealer.
