Airstream Flying Cloud Recall 17V089: Missing spare tire info on placard can cause crash risk

NHTSA campaign 17V089, reported February 10, 2017, 82 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2017 Airstream Flying Cloud, International, and Sport recreational trailers may have a tire placard that is missing the spare tire information. The placard is required to show the correct tire and load information, and without it, the spare could be replaced with the wrong type of tire or loaded beyond its capacity. Either situation increases the risk of a crash.

An owner should contact Airstream customer service at 1-937-596-6111, extension 7401 or 7411, to confirm the vehicle is covered. Airstream will notify affected owners and dealers, and an authorized dealer will provide a corrected Tire Placard free of charge. The recall began on March 10, 2017.

In the meantime, check whether your trailer's tire placard lists spare tire information, and make sure any spare you carry is the correct type and is not overloaded. You can also check your VIN for open recalls on the NHTSA website.
