Autocar Xspotter Recall 17V049: Dash Lights May Be Too Dim or Too Bright, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 17V049, reported January 23, 2017, 29 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain Xspotter vehicles from the 2016 and 2017 model years were built without a dimmer switch for the dash illumination. Without a way to adjust the brightness, the dash lights may be too dim or too bright, which makes it harder to read the instruments and increases the risk of a crash. The vehicles also do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 101 for controls and displays.

Autocar will notify owners, and authorized dealers will install a dimmer switch to adjust the dash illumination. The repair is free of charge. You can contact Autocar customer service at 1-765-489-5499, referencing recall number ACTT-1701, and you can check your vehicle identification number for open recalls.
