Nissan Altima Recall 17V040: Rear doors may open unexpectedly while driving

NHTSA campaign 17V040, reported January 18, 2017, 341,005 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A rear door latch cable on these vehicles may have been routed incorrectly during assembly. Lowering a rear window can cause that rear door to unlatch and open on its own.

If a rear passenger door opens while the vehicle is moving, it increases the risk of injury to rear passengers. Until the repair is done, be cautious about lowering rear windows while driving and make sure rear passengers keep their doors securely closed.

Nissan will notify owners, and authorized dealers will correct the rear door latch and lock cable routing at no cost to you. You can contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261, and you can check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
