Honda GL1800 Recall 17V031: Passenger airbag may rupture and spray metal fragments

NHTSA campaign 17V031, reported January 10, 2017, 882 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain Honda GL1800 motorcycles from 2006 to 2009 and 2012 have a passenger-side front airbag inflator that can rupture when the airbag deploys in a crash. The propellant inside can degrade over long-term exposure to humidity and temperature changes, which may cause the inflator to break apart.

If the inflator ruptures, metal fragments can strike the rider or passenger, which may cause serious injury or death. Owners should not wait to have this addressed, and should contact Honda Motorcycle Customer Support at 1-866-784-1870 to confirm whether their motorcycle is included.

The repair is free: an authorized Honda dealer will replace the airbag module at no charge. Owners can also check their VIN for any open recalls.
