Mazda B-Series Truck Recall 17V013: Passenger airbag inflator may rupture in a crash

NHTSA campaign 17V013, reported January 10, 2017, 725 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2007-2009 Mazda B-Series trucks have a passenger-side frontal airbag inflator that can rupture when the airbag deploys in a crash. This happens because the inflator's propellant degrades over time after long-term exposure to humidity and temperature changes. A rupture can send metal fragments toward the occupants, which may cause serious injury or death.

Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the recall repair has been performed. Mazda will notify affected owners, and an authorized dealer will replace the front passenger airbag inflator free of charge. You can check whether your vehicle is affected and contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500, referencing recall number 0817A.

If you own one of these trucks, check your VIN for open recalls and schedule the free repair with a Mazda dealer as soon as possible.
