Fisker Karma Recall 17V004: Passenger Air Bag May Rupture and Spray Metal Fragments

NHTSA campaign 17V004, reported January 6, 2017, 811 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The passenger-side frontal air bag inflator in certain vehicles may rupture in a crash that requires the air bag to deploy. The propellant inside can degrade after long-term exposure to humidity and temperature changes, which can cause the inflator to break apart.

If the inflator ruptures, metal fragments can strike the occupants and cause serious injury or death. This recall covers vehicles originally sold or registered in Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina and Texas.

Owners will be notified, and authorized dealers will replace the air bag inflators free of charge. Contact Karma Automotive Client Services at [email protected] or 1-855-288-6109, referencing recall number 5.84.17.001.01. Check your VIN for open recalls.
