International Prostar Recall 16V938: Battery cover latch can short electrically and cause fire

NHTSA campaign 16V938, reported December 28, 2016, 294 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A metallic battery cover latch on these trucks may unlatch and contact the battery jump start stud when the stud is not covered. This can create an electrical short to ground.

An electrical short to ground increases the risk of a fire. Owners should have the problem corrected promptly.

Navistar will notify owners. Authorized dealers will install a latch stop that keeps the latch from rotating to the unlatched position, and the repair is free of charge. Owners can contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825 (recall number 16513), and can check their VIN for open recalls.
