Maserati Levante S Recall 16V936: Engine May Shut Down or Shift to Neutral at Low Speed

What this recall means for you

The engine software in certain vehicles may cause the transmission to shift into neutral, or the engine to shut down, when the vehicle is traveling at about two miles per hour.

If the transmission unexpectedly shifts to neutral or the engine stalls, the vehicle can lose drive power and the risk of a crash increases. Owners should be aware of this possibility, especially in traffic or when maneuvering at low speed.

The repair is free. Dealers will update the engine control software at no charge, and the manufacturer will notify owners. You can contact Maserati customer service at 1-877-696-2737 (recall number 338), and you should check your vehicle identification number for any open recalls.

Problem
Maserati North America, Inc. (Maserati) is recalling certain 2017 Levante vehicles. The engine software may cause the transmission to shift to neutral, or the engine to shut down, when the vehicle speed is approximately two miles per hour.
Risk
If the transmission unexpectedly shifts to neutral, or the engine shuts down, there is an increased risk of a crash.
Remedy
Maserati will notify owners, and dealers will update the engine control software, free of charge. The recall began on January 6, 2017. Owners may contact Maserati customer service at 1-877-696-2737. Maserati's number for this recall is 338.
