Kzrv Venom Recall 16V898: Rear cargo door can swing down forcefully, risking injury

NHTSA campaign 16V898, reported December 14, 2016, 262 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The rear cargo doors on certain 2016-2017 Venom and Durango Gold toyhauler and fifth wheel trailers, built between January 11, 2016 and December 2, 2016, may have hinges with welds on the hinge pin and hinge plate that are not strong enough. Because of this, the top of the door can swing down with more force than normal.

If the door does not open as expected, people standing in its path face an increased risk of injury. Owners should contact KZRV customer service at 1-800-768-4016, extension 154 or 153, to confirm their trailer is included. KZRV will notify affected owners.

The remedy is free of charge: an authorized dealer will inspect the weld thickness and, if necessary, replace the rear door hinges. The recall began on January 13, 2017. Owners can also check their VIN for any open recalls.
