GEM E2 Recall 16V884: Drive Switch May Send Wrong Signal, Causing Reverse Instead of Forward

NHTSA campaign 16V884, reported December 8, 2016, 1,644 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The drive mode switch on certain 2016-2017 GEM electric vehicles can send an incorrect signal. When this happens, the vehicle may move in the opposite direction from the one the operator selected, so a vehicle intended to go forward may instead reverse.

This unintended reversing increases the risk of a crash. Be especially careful when starting or maneuvering, and confirm the selected direction before you move. The affected vehicles were manufactured between May 29, 2015 and November 18, 2016.

Polaris will notify owners, and authorized dealers will replace the drive switch free of charge. The recall began December 28, 2016. You can contact the GEM Consumer Service Department at 1-855-743-3436 and reference recall number L-16-01. You should also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
