Suzuki DL650 Recall 16V878: Alternator stator can short out, causing engine stall

NHTSA campaign 16V878, reported December 6, 2016, 8,613 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The alternator stator in certain motorcycles may not resist heat well enough. Over time, this can cause a short circuit in the stator wires, which may stop the battery from charging properly.

If this happens, the engine can stall while you are riding, which increases the risk of a crash. Stop riding if your charging system warning or battery problems appear, and have the motorcycle checked before using it again.

The repair is free. Dealers will replace the stator at no cost, and Suzuki will notify affected owners. You can contact Suzuki customer service at 1-714-572-1490 and reference recall 2A67. You should also check your VIN for open recalls.
