Buick Cascada Recall 16V844: Windows may close unexpectedly, risking injury to passengers

NHTSA campaign 16V844, reported November 21, 2016, 4 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some 2016 Cascada convertibles may have had their original roof control module replaced with an incorrect one. This module can cause the power windows to close automatically when the convertible roof is closed, and it can allow the windows to be shut remotely from the key fob at distances beyond 11 meters. As a result, these vehicles no longer meet federal window safety requirements.

An unexpected window closing can increase the risk of injury to passengers, particularly from a window closing on a person's hand, arm, or head. Owners should take the recall seriously and avoid relying on automatic window closing or remote window operation until the repair is completed.

GM will notify affected owners, and authorized Buick dealers will replace the roof control module with the correct part at no cost to you. You can contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, using GM recall number 16126. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls to confirm whether your car is affected.
