Hyundai Entourage Recall 16V843: Hood may fly open while driving if latch fails

NHTSA campaign 16V843, reported November 21, 2016, 41,264 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The secondary hood latch can corrode and bind, so it may stay in the unlatched position even when the hood is closed. If the primary latch is released by accident and the secondary latch is not engaged, the hood could open unexpectedly while the vehicle is being driven.

An open hood can block the driver's view and increase the risk of a crash. Owners should not ignore this recall, even if the car seems to run normally.

The repair is free at an authorized Hyundai dealer. In some states, dealers will replace the secondary latch; in others, they will inspect it and lubricate or replace it as needed. Hyundai will also notify owners directly. You can call Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151 and check your VIN for open recalls.
