IC Bus CE Recall 16V838: Hot coolant can leak onto driver's feet, risking burns or crash

NHTSA campaign 16V838, reported November 18, 2016, 157 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A heater hose inside the bus, near the driver's heater water shutoff valve, can fatigue over time and split. When that happens, hot, pressurized engine coolant can spill into the driver's foot area.

The danger is a sudden burn injury from the hot fluid, and a crash if the driver is distracted or loses control. Owners should contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825 and reference recall number 16511. Navistar will notify owners, and dealers will replace the formed heater hose with a more robust one free of charge. Check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls.
