Altec Aerial Device Recall 16V835: Boom Lift Cylinder May Fail, Causing Uncontrolled Boom Movement

NHTSA campaign 16V835, reported November 17, 2016, 2,194 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain aerial device trucks built between May 1995 and August 1999 have lower boom lift cylinders that may have a faulty cylinder end gland. If the gland fails, the boom can move uncontrollably.

Uncontrolled boom movement can increase the risk of injury to the operator or to people nearby. Owners should stop using the aerial device if they notice unexpected boom movement and contact an authorized dealer before continuing to operate it.

The repair is free. Dealers will inspect the boom and repair or replace the lift cylinder at no cost. Owners can also contact Altec customer service at 1-205-991-7733, and should check their vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
