Fccc XCR Recall 16V809: Power Steering Hose May Rub Starter, Risking Fire

NHTSA campaign 16V809, reported November 7, 2016, 1,827 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A power steering hose on certain chassis may be routed incorrectly, allowing it to rub against the starter motor's power stud. This can cause electrical arcing and a power steering fluid leak.

The combination of electrical arcing and leaking power steering fluid can increase the risk of a fire. Owners should not ignore signs of a power steering fluid leak or electrical problems near the starter.

Dealers will reroute the power steering hose to provide proper clearance, and the repair is free of charge. Owners can contact Daimler Trucks North America customer service at 1-800-547-0712 (recall number FL-727), and should check their VIN for open recalls.
