Toyota Highlander Recall 16V775: Brake fluid sensor may not detect low fluid, reducing braking

NHTSA campaign 16V775, reported October 24, 2016, 7,056 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain vehicles built between May and September 2016, the brake fluid level sensor may not be connected to the wiring harness. Because of this, the sensor cannot detect when brake fluid is low.

If the brake fluid level drops and the warning does not register, braking performance can decrease, which raises the risk of a crash. Owners should not wait for a warning light to appear before getting this checked.

Toyota will notify owners, and authorized dealers will inspect the sensor and connect the wiring harness if needed, at no cost to you. To find out whether your vehicle is included, check your VIN for open recalls, or contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.
