- Problem
- E-One Incorporated (E-One) is recalling certain model year 2012-2016 E-One Pumpers manufactured January 1, 2012, to June 23, 2016 and built on a Ford F-550 chassis modified to be equipped with driveline-driven ("split-shaft") pumps. The bearings and drive shafts of the pumps may loosen due to high vibration levels, such as those created when the vehicle is driven above 65 MPH.
- Risk
- If the bearings or drive shafts loosen, parts may fall from the vehicle becoming road hazards, the pump may not function to assist in fire fighting or there may be a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy
- E-One will notify owners, and Ford dealers will recalibrate the vehicle to be speed limited to 65 MPH, free of charge. The recall began on November 29, 2016. Owners may contact E-One customer service at 1-352-861-3612.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
What this recall means for you
Certain E-One Pumper fire trucks built on a Ford F-550 chassis, made between January 2012 and June 2016, have driveline-driven (split-shaft) pumps whose bearings and drive shafts may loosen because of high vibration. This vibration can occur when the vehicle is driven above 65 MPH.
If the bearings or drive shafts loosen, parts could fall off the vehicle and become road hazards, the pump may fail to work for firefighting, or the driver could lose control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy is free. E-One will notify owners, and Ford dealers will recalibrate the vehicle to limit its speed to 65 MPH. Owners can contact E-One customer service at 1-352-861-3612, and should check their VIN for open recalls.
