Nissan Versa Recall 16V724: Side curtain airbags may tear during deployment

NHTSA campaign 16V724, reported October 11, 2016, 1,754 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some 2017 vehicles built in a narrow window in August 2016 have a seam in the fabric of the side curtain airbags that may tear when the airbags deploy. A torn seam can affect how the airbag performs, and the vehicles do not meet the federal standards for ejection mitigation and side impact protection.

If you are in a crash that requires the side curtain airbags to deploy and they do not work as intended, you face a higher risk of injury.

The remedy is free. Authorized dealers will replace the left and right side curtain airbags at no cost to you. Owners will be notified by mail, and you can contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261. Check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls to confirm whether your car is affected.
