Fccc S2 Recall 16V707: Vehicle Can Shift Into Gear Without Brake Pressed

NHTSA campaign 16V707, reported October 4, 2016, 11 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain 2017 Freightliner Custom Chassis S2 bus chassis built between November 25, 2015 and April 27, 2016, the brake-to-shift interlock may not work. This means the transmission can be shifted into a drive gear without the brake pedal being pressed first.

If this happens, the vehicle can move unintentionally or roll away, which raises the risk of injury or a crash. Owners should be careful to keep the brake pedal pressed whenever shifting out of park or neutral until the fix is installed.

The remedy is free. Dealers will update the vehicle's software at no charge, and Daimler Trucks North America will notify owners. You can contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712 (recall number FL-726), and you should check your vehicle identification number for open recalls.
