Aprilia Caponord 1200 Recall 16V691: Front brake master cylinder may let air in, causing longer stopping distance

NHTSA campaign 16V691, reported September 26, 2016, 1,628 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain Aprilia motorcycles built between June 2013 and June 2016 have a front brake master cylinder that may allow air into the hydraulic brake circuit. When this happens, the bike can take a longer than expected distance to stop.

A longer braking distance than you expect raises the risk of a crash, especially in traffic or when you need to stop quickly. If your motorcycle is one of the affected models, watch for a front brake that feels different from normal and have it inspected promptly.

The remedy is free. Dealers will replace the front brake master cylinder pushrod and boot assembly at no charge. Owners will be notified by Aprilia, or you can contact Aprilia customer service at 1-866-705-1727. You can also check your VIN for open recalls at an authorized dealer or on the NHTSA website.
