Utility Flatbed Trailers Recall 16V674: Rear tarp device can detach from flatbed trailer

NHTSA campaign 16V674, reported September 19, 2016, 66 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain flatbed trailers made between January 2015 and September 2016, the rear aerodynamic device (RAD) on the Conestoga XP sliding tarp system can separate from the rear of the tarping system because the mounting rivets fail.

If the RAD detaches while the trailer is on the road, it can become a road hazard for other drivers and increase the risk of a crash.

The remedy is free. Dealers will replace the mounting rivets with a bolted connection at no charge. Owners will be notified by Utility Trailer Manufacturing Company, and you can also contact Utility customer service at 1-818-965-1541. Check your trailer's VIN for open recalls and schedule the repair with an authorized dealer.
