Starcraft RV TT AR-One Maxx Recall 16V669: Trailer Label Overstates Axle Capacity, Risking Overload

NHTSA campaign 16V669, reported September 15, 2016, 40 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The federal certification label on certain 2017 AR-ONE MAXX LE trailers (model 19BHLE, built August 25 to September 6, 2016) states the trailer has two axles, each rated at 2,500 pounds. In fact, these trailers have only one 2,500-pound axle, so the label overstates the load capacity and the trailer does not meet the certification requirements of 49 CFR Part 567.

If an owner relies on the listed axle capacity, the trailer could be loaded beyond what its single axle can safely carry. That overload could cause axle or tire failure, which increases the risk of a crash.

Starcraft is providing a corrected federal label at no cost, and dealers have been notified to quarantine affected trailers. Owners can contact Starcraft customer service at 1-800-945-4787 (recall number 9902319). Check your VIN for open recalls, and do not rely on the label's axle capacity until the corrected label is installed.

Problem
Starcraft RV (Starcraft) is recalling certain model year 2017 AR-ONE MAXX LE trailers, model 19BHLE, manufactured August 25, 2016, to September 6, 2016. The Federal label on the affected vehicles states that the trailers are built with two axles, each with a 2500 pound capacity, however, the vehicles are only built with one 2500 pound capacity axle. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification."
Risk
The trailer would be overloaded if the operator goes by the listed axle capacity, possibly resulting in axle or tire failure, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Starcraft has notified the dealers who have the trailers quarantined and will provide them with a corrected Federal label, free of charge. The recall began September 19, 2016. Owners may contact Starcraft customer service at 1-800-945-4787. Starcraft's number for this recall is 9902319.
