Fiat 500 Recall 16V667: Spare tire placard lists wrong pressure; overinflation can cause blowout

NHTSA campaign 16V667, reported September 15, 2016, 32 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The tire placard on certain 2016 Fiat 500 vehicles built between June 2015 and July 2016 lists a spare tire inflation pressure that is higher than the maximum pressure printed on the tire's sidewall. Following the placard could lead you to overinflate the spare.

If the temporary spare tire is used while overinflated, it may suddenly fail, which increases the risk of a crash.

The remedy is free. Dealers will add an overlay to the tire placard showing the correct tire inflation information. Owners may also contact Chrysler customer service at 1-888-242-6342 (recall number S69), and you can check your VIN for any open recalls on your vehicle.
