Hyundai Sonata Recall 16V615: Driver airbag may not protect neck in a crash

NHTSA campaign 16V615, reported August 24, 2016, 1,031 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2016 model year vehicles built between March 28 and April 12, 2016 have a driver-side frontal airbag that may not adequately protect the driver's neck during a crash. The airbag therefore does not fully meet federal occupant crash protection requirements.

If the airbag does not adequately protect the driver's neck, the risk of injury to the driver is increased in the event of a crash. Owners should take this recall seriously and not delay the repair.

The remedy is free: Hyundai will notify owners, and authorized dealers will replace the driver's frontal airbag module at no charge. You can contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151 (Hyundai recall number 148), and you should check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
