Mercedes-Benz C 300 Recall 16V603: Stability Control May Activate Unexpectedly, Parking Brake May Fail

NHTSA campaign 16V603, reported August 16, 2016, 62 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2016 Mercedes-Benz C300 and GLC300 vehicles built between February 8 and May 18, 2016 may have an Electronic Stability Program (ESP) control unit that was damaged before it was installed. A damaged unit can inadvertently activate the stability control, which changes the vehicle's path, and the electronic parking brake may not function.

Both conditions can increase the risk of a crash. An unexpected change in direction or a parking brake that does not hold can cause a vehicle to move or lose control at a time when the driver does not expect it.

Mercedes-Benz USA will notify affected owners, and the repair is free. Authorized dealers will replace the ESP hydraulic control unit at no cost, with the recall expected to begin in October 2016. You can contact Mercedes-Benz USA customer service at 1-800-367-6372, and you should check your VIN for open recalls.
