Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 Recall 16V602: Rear head restraints may not stay upright in extreme cold

NHTSA campaign 16V602, reported August 15, 2016, 2 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2016 GLE 450 AMG 4Matic vehicles built in July 2015 may have rear head restraints that do not stay locked in the upright position when temperatures are very low.

If the vehicle is involved in a crash in very low temperatures, the rear head restraints may not work as intended, which raises the risk of injury to rear-seat passengers. Owners should take this seriously if they regularly carry passengers in the back seat in cold climates.

Mercedes-Benz USA will notify owners, and authorized dealers will replace the rear head restraints free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in October 2016. You can contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372, and you should check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
