Mazda CX-7 Recall 16V593: Front Ball Joint May Separate, Causing Loss of Steering

NHTSA campaign 16V593, reported August 11, 2016, 190,102 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Water can enter the front suspension ball joint fittings on certain Mazda CX-7 vehicles. If that water is contaminated with road salt, such as from driving on treated snowy roads, the ball joint can corrode and separate from the lower control arm. This can cause a loss of steering control and increase the risk of a crash.

Mazda will notify owners, and authorized dealers will replace both front lower control arms at no cost to you. Mazda will first address 2007-2008 vehicles and 2009-2011 vehicles currently registered in a list of Northeastern, Midwestern, and Mid-Atlantic states plus the District of Columbia. The remaining vehicles will be addressed as parts become available.

To check whether your vehicle is affected, enter your VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup site or contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500 (Mazda recall number 9716H). If your vehicle is included, schedule the free repair with an authorized Mazda dealer.
