KME Predator Aerial Recall 16V586: Touchscreen May Switch Accessories On or Off Unexpectedly

NHTSA campaign 16V586, reported August 8, 2016, 74 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain fire and rescue apparatus with Class 1 Ultraview touchscreens by Hale Products may experience false switch activations. The screen can register a touch that the operator did not make, so accessories such as emergency beacons or automatic snow chains may turn on or off without the driver knowing.

Unintended changes to accessories like emergency beacons or automatic snow chains can increase the risk of a crash. The vehicle may not behave as the operator expects, which is why owners should not wait to have it checked.

The repair is free. Dealers will reprogram the touchscreen units at no charge, and the recall began on October 14, 2016. Owners can contact KME customer service at 1-800-235-3926, Hale Products Customer Service at 1-800-533-3569, or [email protected] to arrange the remedy.
