E-One Typhoon Recall 16V567: Fire Pump Transmission May Fail to Engage Water Pump

NHTSA campaign 16V567, reported August 1, 2016, 42 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A component inside the shift unit of certain Waterous C20 and C21 split-shaft transmissions may be damaged, so the operator may be unable to switch the power output. The transmission sends power to the wheels or to an add-on unit such as a fire-fighting water pump.

If the power output cannot be changed, the fire truck may not be able to pump water once it arrives at the scene, which increases the risk of injury because a fire may not be extinguished as quickly.

E-One will notify owners and supply a remedy kit that replaces the clevis pin and retaining rings at no cost. Owners can contact E-One customer service at 1-352-861-3612, and should check their vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
