Mini Clubman Recall 16V553: Side curtain airbags may not inflate as intended

NHTSA campaign 16V553, reported July 25, 2016, 7,810 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2016-2017 vehicles may have side curtain airbags for the front seats that do not deploy in their intended positions during a crash. The vehicles therefore do not fully meet federal ejection mitigation safety requirements.

If a side curtain airbag fails to inflate as designed in a crash, front seat occupants face an increased risk of injury. Check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls and watch for a notice from the manufacturer.

The remedy is free. Authorized dealers will modify the driver and passenger side curtain airbag covers at no cost. Owners can contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 or [email protected], and the recall is expected to begin September 12, 2016.
