What this recall means for you
Certain 2015-2016 Jeep Renegade vehicles with the factory-installed optional trailer hitch package may have been built with only one fastener per side for the hitch assembly, instead of the three per side that are required. Without the full set of fasteners, the hitch assembly can separate from the vehicle, and any towed vehicle may no longer be properly connected.
If the hitch separates while towing, the trailer can come loose from the vehicle, which increases the risk of a crash.
The repair is free. Dealers will install two additional fasteners per side. Owners can contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 (recall S62), and should check their VIN for open recalls.
