Heil Flatbed Recall 16V525: Trailer May Roll Away After Parking Due to Brake Delay

NHTSA campaign 16V525, reported July 11, 2016, 203 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain Heil trailers from model years 2014 to 2016, built between January 1, 2014 and June 18, 2016, may have Bendix SR5 spring brake valves that were improperly machined. This can delay the application of the spring brakes when the trailer is parked.

If the spring brakes apply late, the trailer may roll away after it has been uncoupled from the tractor, which raises the risk of a crash or injury. Owners should take this seriously and avoid leaving an affected trailer unattended until the repair is done.

Heil will contact affected owners, and Bendix will supply a free remedy kit with instructions to repair the SR5 trailer relay valves. You can reach Heil customer service at 1-800-400-6913, and you should also check your VIN for open recalls.
