- Problem
- East Manufacturing Corp. (East) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Flatbed, Frame Dump, and Flatbed Tipper trailers manufactured January 10, 2014, to April 24, 2015, equipped with certain Bendix SR5 spring brake valves. These valves may have been improperly machined which may cause a delay of application of the spring brakes while parking.
- Risk
- If there is a delay of the spring brake application, the trailer may roll away after it has decoupled from the tractor, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
- Remedy
- East Manufacturing Corp. will contact owners and provide a remedy kit, complete with instructions, to repair any affected SR-5 trailer relay valves, free of charge. The recall began on August 22, 2016. Owners may contact East customer service at 1-330-325-9921.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
What this recall means for you
Certain East trailers built between January 2014 and April 2015 may have spring brake valves that were improperly machined. The valve can delay the application of the spring brakes when the trailer is parked, so the trailer could roll away after it has been uncoupled from the tractor.
A rolling trailer can strike people, vehicles, or property and raises the risk of a crash or injury. If your trailer is one of the affected models, East Manufacturing Corp. will contact you and send a remedy kit with instructions to repair the affected SR-5 relay valves at no cost to you. You can also call East customer service at 1-330-325-9921, and you should check your trailer's VIN for open recalls.
