Chevrolet Cruze Recall 16V498: Headlights May Be Misaimed During Service, Reducing Night Visibility

NHTSA campaign 16V498, reported July 1, 2016, 32,913 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2016 Chevrolet Cruze vehicles built between November 5, 2015 and May 26, 2016 have headlight assemblies that are not marked with the three-digit identifier code used to properly aim the headlights. Without that code, the headlights may be improperly aimed during service. This can reduce nighttime visibility and increase the risk of a crash. The vehicles also fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108 for lamps and reflective devices.

General Motors will mail owners instructions and adhesive labels showing the correct code, to be applied to the headlight assemblies. Owners may also take the vehicle to a Chevrolet dealership for help applying the label, at no charge. The recall began August 11, 2016.
