Ameritrans 5500 Recall 16V497: Incorrect tire and loading label may lead to overloading

NHTSA campaign 16V497, reported July 1, 2016, 803 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some shuttle buses built on Ford, Dodge and Freightliner chassis may have tire and loading placards that do not apply to vehicles weighing more than 10,000 pounds. Because the labels do not match the vehicle, they fail to meet federal tire labeling requirements under FMVSS 110 and may confuse the operator about safe loading limits.

If the label is misread, the vehicle could be overloaded, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should contact Ameritrans Customer Service at 1-574-218-4786 for more information. The repair is free: an authorized dealer will remove the incorrect tire and loading placards. Also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls on the NHTSA website.
