- Problem
- Fontaine Trailer Company (Fontaine) is recalling certain model year 2015-2017 Revolution trailers manufactured February 17, 2014, to April 11, 2016, equipped with certain Bendix SR5 spring brake valves. These brake valves were improperly machined without a radius on the internal check valve seat, causing a delay of application of the spring brakes while parking.

- Remedy
- Fontaine will contact owners and Bendix will provide a remedy kit, complete with instructions, to repair any affected SR-5 trailer relay valves, free of charge. The recall began on August 22, 2016. Owners may contact Fontaine Customer Service Department at 1-800-821-6535. Fontaine's number for this recall is Bendix 16E-045.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
What this recall means for you
Certain Fontaine Revolution trailers built between February 2014 and April 2016 may have Bendix SR5 spring brake valves that were improperly machined. The internal check valve seat lacks a radius, which can delay the application of the spring brakes when the trailer is parked.
If the spring brakes engage late, the trailer may roll away after it has been decoupled from the tractor. This raises the risk of a crash or injury to people nearby.
Owners will be contacted by Fontaine, and Bendix will supply a free remedy kit with instructions to repair the affected SR5 trailer relay valves. You can also call Fontaine Customer Service at 1-800-821-6535 and reference Bendix recall 16E-045. The recall began August 22, 2016.
