Newmar Dutch Star Recall 16V478: Engine Brake May Suddenly Stop Working, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 16V478, reported June 28, 2016, 1,243 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The accelerator (throttle) pedal position sensor on certain motorhomes may fail to return fully to zero after use. When this happens, the engine brake can suddenly stop activating as expected, which reduces the vehicle's ability to slow down. The loss of engine braking happens without warning, which can increase the risk of a crash.

If you own one of the affected motorhomes, contact a Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) dealer for a free replacement of the throttle pedal. You can also reach Newmar Customer Service at 1-800-731-8300, Daimler Trucks North America at 1-800-547-0712, or by email at [email protected]. Reference Newmar recall number 16V 321.

Regardless of whether your vehicle is listed, check your VIN for open recalls to confirm whether this repair applies to you.
