Forest River Charleston Recall 16V472: Engine Brake May Suddenly Fail, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 16V472, reported June 28, 2016, 138 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain motorhomes built on a Freightliner chassis may have a throttle pedal position sensor that does not return fully to zero. When this happens, the engine brake can suddenly stop activating as expected, which reduces the vehicle's ability to slow down.

A sudden loss of engine braking without warning can reduce braking capacity and increase the risk of a crash. Owners should be especially alert to any unexpected change in how the vehicle slows down.

The repair is free. Forest River will notify owners, and Daimler Trucks North America dealers will replace the accelerator pedal at no charge. Owners can contact the Daimler Trucks Customer Service Department at 1-800-547-0712 or [email protected], and should check their vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
