John Evans Cheetah Tandem Flatbed Recall 16V470: Brake Drag Can Cause Wheel-End Fires on Trailers

NHTSA campaign 16V470, reported June 27, 2016, 2 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain trailers have air brake actuators that may not be seated properly, so the diaphragm inside the brake chamber can be out of position. This can cause the brakes to drag, meaning they stay partly applied when they should release.

Brake drag can generate enough heat to cause a fire at the wheel end, which creates a serious risk to the trailer, its cargo, and anyone nearby. If you own an affected trailer, stop using it until the brakes are inspected.

The repair is free: service centers will replace the brake actuators at no cost to you. Contact John Evans customer service at 1-803-436-3100, and check your VIN for open recalls.
