Mercedes-Benz SL400 Recall 16V439: Low-beam headlights may be misaimed, reducing night visibility

NHTSA campaign 16V439, reported June 15, 2016, 100 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some vehicles were built with low-beam headlights that may have been aimed incorrectly at the factory. Because of this, the headlights may not meet federal lighting safety requirements (FMVSS 108). The notice lists model year 2016 SLK300, SLK350, SL400, SL550, and SL63 AMG vehicles built from June 29, 2015 through July 13, 2015, though the vehicles are listed here as model year 2015, so check your vehicle's VIN to confirm whether it is affected.

Misaimed low-beam headlights can reduce the driver's visibility of the road, especially at night, which increases the risk of a crash.

Mercedes-Benz USA will notify affected owners, and authorized dealers will inspect the headlamps and adjust them if needed, at no cost to you. The recall began July 22, 2016. To check whether your vehicle is included, enter your VIN on the NHTSA recall lookup site or contact Mercedes-Benz USA customer service at 1-800-367-6372.
